This is a work that will be added to as new ideas come to me. It is a map showing places in the United States that are mentioned in songs I like. Mostly they are country-western songs, rock and pop songs and old folk tunes, and it’s much more fun than geography was at school!
If you’ve ever wanted to know where the places are that inspired songs like “Tallahassie Lassie”, “Okie from Muskogee”, or even Jan & Dean’s “Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review and Timing Association”, then help is here.
Blue icons mark songs about towns. Green icons mark songs about whole states. Yellow icons mark places mentioned in the lyrics. Any suggestions or corrections? Contact Us.

One idea for the future is links showing details of some of the great American train songs and railroads. And before anyone asks, Perry Como’s “Delaware”, a wonderful song that mentions endless states isn’t marked, nor is Hank Snow’s wonderful “I’ve Been Everywhere”.
Try guessing the song from the position of an icon, before clicking on it for the answer.
In case you aren’t familiar with Google Maps, click on an icon to get more information. Click on the map and drag it while holding the mouse key down to move the map, or use the controls inb the top left corner of the map. I might eventually add an index here. Until then, clicking on the link under the map (Pop Songs and Place Names) takes you to a list of all the icons.
PS. Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga are three towns about 20 miles apart, east of Los Angeles.
PPS. Is it strange that there aren’t many songs about the US North West? Or is “Buffalo Gals” about the young girls from Buffalo, Wyoming?
