Missed out
The Beach Boys and Elton John, (before he started wearing someone else’s hair!) at Wembley Stadium about 1976.
David Bowie’s final Ziggy Stardust gig, 1974(?)
Paul Young when he was with the Q-Tips, in Torquay. I saw Torquay Utd. V. Lincoln City instead. Bad decision. 1978ish.
Dale Watson at the Waterman’s Arts Centre, Brentford, 1998.
Born too late
(a.k.a. If there’s a rock’n’roll heaven, then you know they’ve got one hell of a band).
The Glenn Miller band.
Patsy Cline at the Cimarron Ballroom, her first gig after her near-fatal car accident. A tape of the show was recently unearthed at a car boot sale and issued on CD.
Elvis at the Alabama state fair, 1955.
Buddy Holly and the Crickets, the night they were the first white act to play Harlem’s Apollo Theatre.
Hank Williams, Canton, Ohio, USA 31st December, 1952, his last ever gig.
The Big Bopper at the Winter Dance Party, Clear Lake, Iowa, 2nd Feb, 1959.
The Elvis ’68 Comeback Special (so that I could have got rid of that tambourine!)
Birkenhead Essoldo after Billy Fury hustled Larry Parnes to let him go on. Also Decca’s Hampstead studio for the recording of Billy Fury’s live ‘We Want Billy’ LP
The Beatles in the Cavern, 1962.
The Beatles at Shea Stadium, 1965.
Elvis in Vegas.
The Beatles on the roof of the Apple building.
Great gigs still to come
Joe Brown
Lonnie Donegan, now far too late...
Johnny Halliday.
Helen Shapiro.
Neil Sedaka.
I should’ve known better…
The Screeens, at a pub called the Windsor Castle, somewhere in London. 1980 perhaps. They spelled their name with 3 ‘e’s, (this MAY have been a mistake) and wore green boiler suits (this WAS a mistake). Can’t remember anything else.
