In August 2017 we visited Paris. Our main plan was for Martin to attend the 37th International Puzzle Party (IPP37). We spent a week exploring Paris before the party, then joined 70 other attendees for a 5-day tour of NW France. Before departing I had been reading “Paris” by Edward Rutherfurd, an 800-page epic tale of France through the ages, seen through the eyes of various different characters. One of the main characters was a welder working on the construction of the Eiffel Tower. The book encouraged us to visit some lesser-known parts of Paris. Maps. These are of our walks around Paris, and the various legs of the subsequent coach tour of NW France.

Having long wanted to visit the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery we decided to have a warm-up visit to this one, just a short walk NW of the hotel.

This was our longest walk, 10 miles. Our hotel is at the bottom centre of the map. We returned to Montparnasse Cemetery briefly, as we had failed yesterday in finding the memorial to Saint-Saens. Having done some research, we found it quickly, then walked through parts of the Jardin de Luxembourg, before crossing the Seine, and walking through the Louvre and the Tuilerie Gardens, before doubling back along the river to the Ile de la Cite, with the Notre Dame cathedral, and then looping round the Ile Saint-Louis. We then started our return to the hotel, looking for ‘...fancy apartments off the Boulevard St Michel...’
